* On Aug. 24, 1875, Capt. Matthew Webb of Great Britain becomes the first person to successfully swim the English Channel without assistance. Webb reached shore in 21 hours and 45 minutes. In 1883, Webb attempted to swim the Niagara River and drowned in 10 minutes.

Three also proved to be a magical number for Copperas Cove High School that earned All-American status with three of its varsity cheerleaders and three of its junior varsity cheerleaders at the summer Universal Cheer Association Camp in Austin.
S.C. Lee eighth grader Eva Revilla took a deep breath before performing her last dance at summer camp in her junior high career. She made every step count and it paid off. The petite brunette danced away with not only the Outstanding Performer Award at the American Dance//Drill Team camp but was also named to the All-American Team with the opportunity to perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, San Antonio Spurs Halftime Performance, or Orlando Citrus Bowl Halftime Performance.
S.C. Lee Junior High eighth grader Isabella Sequenzia took a deep breath before walking in front of the judges to begin her cheer routine at the National Cheerleader Association Camp. She worried that her nerves would take over and she would forget the cheers she learned earlier in the week. Sequenzia made it clear why she is the captain of the squad when she was named an All-American Cheerleader and won the America Needs Cheerleaders Award for role modeling the spirit of cheer. Sequenzia has the opportunity to perform at the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade or the Orlando Thanksgiving Tour both held Nov. 23 through Nov. 26.
