* On March 6, 1776, a committee of the New York Provincial Congress instructs Major William Malcolm to dismantle the Sandy Hook lighthouse to prevent the lighthouse from helping the British by warning ships of the rocky shore. He succeeded.
Crossroads High School held a ribbon cutting for its first ever student-created vegetable garden. Inspiration for the project came from former Crossroads High School student Shyla Roberts. Roberts expressed an interest in agriculture and horticulture as her future career goals, with a focus in both ornamental and edible plants.
A circle of orange paint, a circle of red paint and a circle of green paint invited Fairview-Miss Jewell Elementary students in teacher Lindsey Feil’s class to dip in their fingers and show off their painting skills.
* On Feb. 27, 1860, President Abraham Lincoln poses for the first of several portraits by noted Civil War-era photographer Mathew Brady. A relatively new art form, the photograph (or daguerreotype) showed a beardless Lincoln just moments before he delivered an address at Cooper Union.
